Water Heater Repair & Replacement — Nassau & Suffolk County
No hot water is an emergency — not an inconvenience. Whether your water heater has stopped working entirely, is producing lukewarm water, or is leaking, our technicians are available 24/7 across Long Island to diagnose and resolve the problem fast. We handle everything from emergency same-day repairs to full tank, tankless, and heat pump water heater replacements.
We service and install all major water heater types found in Nassau and Suffolk County homes: traditional gas, electric, and oil-fired tank units; tankless on-demand systems; and the increasingly popular heat pump water heaters. Whatever your home uses, we have the experience and parts to fix it — or replace it with a system that meets your household's demands.
We stock common tank sizes and carry repair parts for the most frequently installed brands across Long Island, so most calls are resolved in a single visit. If your water heater needs to be replaced, we give you an honest, upfront assessment — not a sales pitch — before recommending repair or replacement.
Repair vs Replace: Our Honest Assessment
When your water heater breaks down, the first question is always: repair it or replace it? Here is the framework we use to give homeowners an honest answer:
- ✓Under 10 years old and repair cost under 40% of replacement cost → repair is usually the right call
- ✓Over 10 years old, especially with recurring issues → replacement is often the smarter investment
- ✓Sediment buildup causing rumbling and reduced capacity → flushing may extend life if the tank is under 8 years old
- ✓Visible rust or corrosion on the tank body → replacement is required; rust cannot be repaired
- ✓Active leak from the tank itself (not fittings) → replacement required immediately
Long Island's hard water — found throughout Nassau and Suffolk County — accelerates sediment buildup inside tank water heaters. Homes on private well water see this even more acutely. Annual flushing extends tank life significantly. If your unit has never been flushed and is more than 8 years old, sediment may be a major factor in its reduced performance.
Traditional Tank Water Heaters
Tank water heaters — in 30-, 40-, 50-, and 80-gallon sizes — remain the most common type in Long Island homes. They store heated water continuously, ensuring hot water is available immediately when you turn on a faucet. Gas-fired tanks are most common in newer Suffolk County homes with natural gas service; electric tanks are found throughout the Island; oil-fired tank units are common in homes on oil heat without a separate domestic hot water coil off the boiler.
Tank water heaters typically last 8–12 years. Most replacements are completed the same day — we carry common tank sizes and brands and can have your hot water restored within hours of arriving.
Tankless Water Heaters (On-Demand)
Tankless water heaters heat water on demand rather than storing it, eliminating standby heat loss and providing virtually endless hot water. They are significantly more compact than tank units — typically wall-mounted — and have a lifespan of 15–20 years, compared to 8–12 years for a standard tank.
The upfront cost is higher: $2,500–$5,000 installed for a gas whole-house unit, depending on the model and venting configuration. For larger Long Island households with high hot water demand — multiple bathrooms, frequent simultaneous use — the investment typically pays back in energy savings and reduced replacement frequency over time. We install Rinnai, Navien, and Noritz tankless systems.
Heat Pump Water Heaters
Heat pump water heaters are the most energy-efficient option available for electric water heating. Instead of generating heat directly, they use electricity to move heat from the surrounding air into the water tank — making them 2–3 times more efficient than standard electric resistance water heaters.
Installation costs $2,000–$4,500 before incentives. Under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), qualifying heat pump water heater installations may be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $600 through 2032. Additional state and utility rebates may also be available for Long Island homeowners.
Heat pump water heaters require a conditioned space of at least 700–1,000 cubic feet to draw ambient air from and work best in spaces that remain above 40°F year-round. They are an excellent fit for many Long Island homes with finished basements or utility rooms.
Common Water Heater Problems We Fix
- ✓No hot water — pilot out, tripped breaker, failed heating element, or dead thermocouple
- ✓Insufficient hot water — undersized tank, failed dip tube, or sediment-reduced capacity
- ✓Water too hot — thermostat set too high or faulty thermostat causing runaway heating
- ✓Rusty or discolored water — anode rod depleted or internal corrosion (tank replacement needed)
- ✓Rumbling or popping sounds — sediment buildup on tank floor; tank flushing recommended
- ✓Leaking from tank or connections — pressure relief valve, inlet/outlet fittings, or tank body
